![]() Remington never (*) (**) used serial numbers to identify the date of manufacture of it's firearms, they however stamped a date code (spelled out below) by the first letter meaning the month and the last letter the year of manufacture. However, the serial number of the left side of the receiver is clearly '271V'. It was a running change so there is no exact serial number. Re: Significance of prefixes on Model 700 serial numbers - 06/29/13 I have around one hundred Remington bolt actions, ranging from early 1950s vintage 722s to current production rifles.
